I’ve chosen Oshun as my first 30 Questions Deity.

A basic Introduction of the Deity.

Oshun is one of the many Orisha. The Oshun river is located in Nigeria. She is a spirit of the river and all the fresh water, diplomacy, prosperity, beauty, fertility, charity, and joy.

She is everything that brings joy and sweetness to the world. The saint she is associated with is Caridad del Cobre, who is the patron saint of Cuba.

She has been said to be married to Shango, Ogun, and Orunmila. She loves pumpkin, honey, oranges and cinnamon. She is associated with vultures and peacocks. In her myths, she often is the last resort, not because she isn’t powerful, but because she is often underestimated.

  1. Yay for momma! She’s also the life blood, abundance, and fertility – it’s said that she loves getting pregnant and being pregnant, and gives her babies to Yemaya to raise them. Also associated with butterflies, quail, all black birds, foxes, bells and witchcraft. :)
